Save Time Studying on UWorld with just One Click
Studying for the USMLE (or MCAT, NCLEX, etc.) is daunting and it seems like it’s not always clear what the best way of studying is. But, after chatting with hundreds of students across med school, nursing, and pre-med circles, I found a common problem (and potential solution) that many of them face. Essentially, I created a chrome extension that generates high-yield flashcards from UWorld questions in just one click.
The Old UWorld Review Process
Before diving into my solution, I wanted to run through the traditional approach to studying off UWorld. Feel free to skip ahead if you’re already familiar. Most students go to UWorld, do questions, then do some sort of review to ensure they’ve mastered the material. One effective approach to doing review is to create flashcards from UWorld explanations. Which then you can apply spaced repetition to retain the knowledge. It usually goes down in one of three ways:
- Snipping parts of the explanation to make cloze (fill in the blank) cards into Anki, which is a little tedious and flashcards are not the best.
- Crafting flashcards by hand, which, eats into precious study time.
- For the med school crowd, there's the option to sync up with AnKing decks using tags from UWorld, which can be a hassle to set up and integrate.
The common thread here is either you're sinking time into low-yield content or struggling with time-consuming setups that could be spent actually studying.
The Slay UWorld Extension
Now a tool that lets you generate high-yield flashcards from UWorld content in just one click would mean no more time studying irrelevant flashcards and no more need for manual card creation. This isn’t just about time savings, but also optimizing your study sessions to focus exclusively on material that matters.
Step-by-step instructions
- Download the Chrome Extension: Simply click the link to get started.
- Dive into UWorld: Work through a UWorld question, then hit the Chrome extension button to auto-generate a flashcard.
- Tweak Your Flashcards: The extension allows you to edit on the fly—delete what you don't need and adjust what you do.
- Study at SlaySchool: Visit SlaySchool to study your flashcards generated from UWorld, which also includes a spaced repetition feature for enhanced learning.
- Export to Anki (Optional): For those who exclusively use Anki, there's also an option to export the generated flashcards into Anki.
This tool is still really new and I’d still very much love to hear feedback from you guys. So if you have any feedback (good or bad), I’d love to hear it in the comments.
